    peak district races

I have never entered a Fell Race before and I'm keen to enter some this winter. Is this the best website to find out local Peak District races or is there another source of info? I live in Macclesfield.

    Thanks

There is quite a bit of information on the Dark Peak website http://www.dpfr.org.uk/ and also on the Hayfield site http://www.cs.man.ac.uk/~temples/hc/

If you fancy a race tomorrow then there is the Stanage Struggle, 11:00 from Hathersage school. Not too steep or rough and well flagged and marshalled.

The races should be listed in the calendar section of this website.
But if you live in Macc, come along and run with the Harriers (if you don't already!....). We're out on Wednesday nights and various places over the weekends.
Great website (I may be a bit biased being the webmaster...)

Decided I'll have a go at Lambs Longer Leg in Jan, what should I expect?

novice - have you done any races/hill-training yet?

Lamb's Longer Leg is a "short sharp shock" jobby: steep up-down-up-down

    slightly less extreme would be:

    Famous Grouse
    (Birch Vale) on Nov.25th, or

    Gravy Pud (Tintwistle) on Dec.2nd

If you think that the Grouse isn't a short sharp shock you're in for a ....

i still have nightmares about trying to catch the man in yellow (aka known as the pennine champion) going up that bloody hill part way in the race.
it certainly shocked me at the grouse

Just browsing for local midweek races later in the year and came across the Lost Lad Fell Race on Wed 15th September on SIentries. I think it is a new race and will be tough with 1,981 feet in its 8.5 miles.

The organisers boast that it is "set to become one of the classics in the Peak District".

    Not at £20 it won't!
Visibility good except in Hill Fog

Do the Salt Cellar instead I organise the Downfall - it costs £6.
It's overpricing like this that encourages Nat Trust and the like to in turn charge over the top 'registration' fees.
I always think The Fellsman is unbeatable value for money when you consider what you get for £40 odd quid (500 odd helpers). Especially compared to something like The Hill where you're paying to go up and down a hill over and over again with no overheads apart from a crappy medal.
I'm sure value for money fell races is another thread somewhere on here, but Lost Lad is overpriced (In my opinion). I'll stay away from it on principle.
