    Tanky's Trog

Anybody intending doing a section of the Tanky's Trog. We are looking at doing the Bleaklow Leg this saturday 29th Sept. If you are, we need to get a shuttle sorted out. Would also like to know if it is run up Wildboar Clough these days or is it Torside.

We live in the Saddleworth Area.

    Drop us a private message.

You should be able to go to the Snake and back (unless you were thinking of going all the way to Edale) it's about 13 mile depending on your route choice.

It's just started to get wet again up there so should be fun.

I'm hoping to run it but I will probably end up Marshalling again.

Don't have a map for it, but these are the grid refs you need:-

    Start: SE050110
    Manned road crossing: SK072992
    1st checkpoint: SK073990
    2nd checkpoint: SK113905
    Finish: SK123854

and pick your own route in between, basically.

Oh, by the way, I've got a copy of the entry form if you're interested...

Geoff - is that the 2007 entry form? A copy would be great.

I spoke with Tanky over the summer and he said that someone would get around to promoting the race as a late addition/race update at some point. Haven't seen anything on the FRA site as yet.

    Re: Tanky's Trog

I've done the race once over 12 years ago. Following another runner coming off Bleaklow we dropped into one of the cloughs that lead onto the snake road on the left handside as you start to drop down the otherside (ladybower side) of the snake. We didn't follow the pennine way right out to the snake road. Can anybody expand on this. I can see that Doctors Gate path crosses the pennine way and drops into a clough or does the best route drop into the clough which is the source of the river derwent?

    Re: Tanky's Trog

Last year on the race I followed some runners who turned SE at "Old Woman" just off the dyke leading down from Bleaklow. I think it coincides with the end - or start - (sorry, can't quite remember!) of a paved section of the PW. Grid ref is 089933 I believe on the OS1 map. Shaved a lot off the route and spared the legs a bit, especially at that time in the race.

Spoke to several runners after and not that many had found the turn. Trade secret!

Yes, I downloaded it from the Dark Peak site, then it disappeared - so I've only got a paper copy of it. I dare say it will reappear somewhere, sometime.

As for the route down to the Snake, I would say take your pick of the various groughs heading that way - certainly don't follow the PW all the way!
