Daz - if you were doing a marathon in April would you do the 15 or 26? Previous longest run is likely to be around 17-18 miles.
Your opinion greatly appreciated, mate

ive only ran 2 marathons juicer but if it was your first marathon i would not do 26 miles now for an april marathon
most i ever did was 23 miles
i think mentally if its your first, why do the 26miles now .
Save the joy of completing the marathon at the race in april in front of crowds, friends etc etc
i would stick to the 15 miles first and aim to complete my longest run say 22miles sometime in early , mid march.
if your an experienced marathoner then by all means yeah do it , 26 miles very steady but otherwise no
the main thing to think about is injury
the most important thing is arriving on the start line in april injury free.
you doin London then juicer ????
No, I'm doing Lochaber - on the same day as London.
It'll be my third marathon, so not exactly experienced. But 15 miles feels a bit short. I was wondering whether to just toddle round the 26 miles with plenty of walking and just do a big time on feet day. Kind of seemed like a good opportunity to get a 'long' run in - a bit like a LDWA day.
You're right though - the most important thing is to arrive on the marathon start line without an injury.
Hmmmmmmmmm
ive seen dozens of runners get injured in JAN, FEB, MARCH
all to often they worry about running the marathon distance before the race
i dont think its neccesary at all
22 miles tops
you will do it on the day no probs
our two club runners who are doing london are panicking cos they are only just up to 15miles
yeah so what
by middle of feB they will be up to 20 miles easy , peaking just right i keep tellin em
i dont think the walkiing will help much to be honest
i prefer a weekly long run build up
its up to you
remember if your injured you cant run
if your fit you will do it even if you have only done up to say 20miles
Aye Daz. Can definitely see what you're saying. Tis all true.
The only other thing is that I prefer things like the Belvoir to the road marathon, and I wonder really whether I'm right to have the marathon as the MAIN FOCUS. Was thinking of trying one of the Montrail Ultras later in the year, and having the marathon length runs as training for that.
I just need to get my blooming priorities sorted don't I?
Ta loads for the advice, it's given me food for thought

juicer you have turned into a scottish lass as well
thats all part of the training
talking scotch
cool i like it
Ta Daz.
Actually, one day, in the far future I REALLY do intend to be a proper
Scottish lass. Want to live in Ullapool and watch the ferry go every day
Never mind running in all them lovely hills!! I'll probably be too old by then though
Listen up Daz, take your place in the queue.....I'm already promised the garden shed to live in!!! Apparently, that's where I'll be allowed to watch sport on TV!!!
This is my local race. One word of warning, whilst the terrain is fine alot of the area has had a proper drenching of late and as such conditions under foot are somewhat moist to say the least.
Its a top event, worth running just for the crumble and custard at the end.
