I've been happy with my Harriers.
I've just decided I don't trust you anymore.
Personally I'd avoid the Pheonix, I know they're only 20 quid from Rock and run, but be careful - I ran in these twice and on both occasion suffered from very bad cramp, resulting in a knee injury (perhaps a coincidence but you never know). The shoes simply don't flex enough and they seem very heavy. Couple this with the bloody orange and yellow styling and you have a very poor pair of shoes. The montrail highlanders are supposedly much better if you read what other people have written on this subject...
I own the a both Harriers and Highlanders. They both have strengths and weaknesses. Both fit my wideish feet.
Harrier, Good light shoe, drains water quickly, dries well, good grip in the dry, ok in mud sheds it quickly from the sole.
Poor grip on wet rock and wet grass
Highlander, Excellent grip in the wet and the dry on rock or grass, snug fit.
Heavy when wet, holds water in padding, very slow drying.
I would have both pairs again and run in the shoe to suit conditions and both are great for training in.
I hope this helps.
Everthing goes so well with the Miz harriers until it starts to rain.
If you can guarantee a rain free winter then they are a good shoe other wise i
would not bother, mind you is any shoe good on wet rock ?
I love the Harriers but agree with Stagger that the problems start on hard wet surfaces. At this very moment I'm sporting cuts on my hands and elbows after two falls yesterday in the LDWA Black Brook event. No matter how careful I tried to be over wet cobbles and slab stiles, there was just no grip at all. The new Harriers are advertised as having an improved, stickier sole to remedy this weakness. Has anyone tried them? If Mizuno have cracked this, the Harrier will be even better.
i own both and would agree with comparisons made, ive also found that my foot in the montrail slides to either side if i take a sudden turn or on a sharp contour, tried changing insoles which helped a little. Also too much padding in montrail, if they got rid of some of it and reduced the thickness of the sole and made the studs a bit longer......itd a be a walsh!
I don't find too many problems with my harriers on wet rock. I found my walsh racers were a nightmare like I nearly killed myself going over a stone stile. I'd have to agree though they aren't the best on wet grass also if it starts with really thick mud then they struggle a bit
