    Footwear For Recces?

I'm new to this recce'ing lark, and was wondering if anybody could tell me what sort of footwear is best?

I'm assuming some sort of compromise between walking boots and fell shoes?

I've been looking at the Inov8 390's, but they are ludicrously expensive

Also found various Merrell Wrap models...

Any others I should be considering?

I use Montrail Highlanders has not a bad grip on the sole. Although to be honest I run so slow these days I could probably manage with a pair of road shoes!

Whatever footwear you'd normally run in over the fells!

maybe I've got the wrong idea wrt what a "recce" invloves

I wasn't intending to run continuously
rather intersperse some walking/navigating/planning with "test running" a few key sections...

some runners dont wear there walshs as they like a bit more cushioning for there steady recce runs mate
dominion and david are just hardened to it , there feet lost all sense of feeling long ago, they prob run barefoot and it doesnt even bother them

For my slower runs night time and recce's etc i use an older pair of Highlanders or walshes and keep my newer fell/trail shoes for racing so the studs last longer.

I race in Walshes and run in Mizuno Wave Harriers. I'd recce in Walshes in e.g. the craggy/ bouldery/slippery rocks in the lakes or anywhere where it would be daft to wear trail shoes. Wave Harriers are a very comfortable training shoe, especially if you've got wide feet.

I think it's sometimes useful to recce in the shoes you plan to race in, particularly if it's a longer race that you were planning to wear a more trail-type shoe to see if their grip is up to dealing with the messier sections.
First run then beer. If no run then proceed directly to beer.
