    Everest Marathon

Just heard the result of yesterday's Everest Marathon (news still takes a while to get out of Namche Bazaar, surprisingly !)

Angela Mudge broke the women's record with 5:02:17 in an amazing 8th overall and was second non-Nepalese. The race was won by Nepali runner Lok Bahadur Rokaya in a time of 4.12.21, which was 20 minutes ahead of second. The only other non-Nepalese in top 10 apart from Angela was Craig Maddocks in 4:54.

Just to endorse that this was a phenomenal performance (but then..?). Angela broke the women's record by nearly 14 minutes and her 8th place was out of 80 finishing competitors.

I've told the missus that her record has been broken.
She seems pleased for some perverse reason.

As a co-incidence, Anne also finished 8th (out of 88), back in 1997. And she broke the then record by 16 minutes, in terrible conditions: a blizzard at the start and deep, fresh snow underfoot.
