You can get something called 'swimmers ear' from the chemist.
There's lots of info here... http://www.emedicinehealth.com/swimm...r/page7_em.htm
and you can get ear plugs for future swims should you need them

Can I recommend anyone wanting to learn relatively quickly and effortlessly joins a swim or tri club or gets some lessons ?
I went from a doggie paddler/ breaststoker in my first triathlon which took me 55 mins for 1900m in a lake
six months later and after lessons i did an ocean based full Ironman ( x2 distance ) swim front crawl in 1hr 11 mins 3.8km
swimming is all about technique and efficiency
very hard and slow to learn on your own as you can't see everything you are doing wrong
wonderfull feeling to learn a new skill
Breaststroke - gives me cramp in my hands as I tend to squeeze them together too hard (I'm sure there's innuendo aplenty in that)
Crawl - Cannot pace myself to save my life. I have to go at it at a full sprint. Which means after about 20 lengths or so, I'm cream crackered.
Butterfly - You're having a laff!!! (Or larf!!)
I can pick a brick off the bottom though.

i found front crawl a nightmare when i satrted
felt like i was drowning, didn't like having head submerged
constantly in oxygen deficit
frantic uncoordinated movement
no power in the right areas
Persistance, and someone pointing out improvements had a miraculous effect
the many drills and float use are the stepping stones to 'effortless' swimming
I did my first proper swimming session in 12 years today and it went rather well
Hoping for a far more successful 2009
Great this ,Swimming because i cannot run now cant swim because of Swimmers ear.Bought some sudafed,it is clearing the ear problem up but i have now come out in a very itchy rash.
I just love been injured.
