    searching for races by area?

is it possible to search for races by area? i live just north of Derby and i know there are a few races local to me (shining cliff, chatsworth) but it'd be nice to be able to search for races by county or by distance from home. anyone got any ideas?

You could do what I have done for the past few Christmas times. I sit down with the FRA calendar, my calendar and a map and go through religiously from start to finish to get an idea of what's when.

Some races are popular/well known so that's no problem. For others you can usually find a clue in the address of the organiser as they are, in general, not too far away from where the race is to take place. This isn't always the case though so beware!

Otherwise, you could try visiting local club sites as they have a diary type page of events. Plus you can try searching this forum as well.

www.matlockac.org.uk have a calendar for local races last year. Most will be held this year I guess.

Since the organiser's address does not always give a clue to the race location (see Arenig Fawr 28th Sep), it will be useful if race organisers gave the full map reference, eg GR (SK 035873) instead of (GR 035873). This will make easier the task of going through the calendar.

Wouldn't it be easier to divide the calendar up into sections according to the area?

I thought they did- England, Wales...
First run then beer. If no run then proceed directly to beer.

No, smaller than that like North Lakes, South Lakes, Peak District etc etc.

It's just an idea....it's probably a crap one.

No, a reasonable one. Sorry I was being a bit pedantic.

There's a local fell race section on a few of the websites

Glossopdale has got a local fell race map here.

And the hayfield fell race site has a local diary, steveT is updating the site with next years details at the moment
