My bit of the A38 was okay today. It had better be clear if I go 'home' that way tomorrow! I'd say that Burton used to be the capital of the brewing industry, but it's gradually being shutdown by greedy multi-nationals. Some nice little breweries like the Bridge Brewery still round here though. By and large the big brewers don't brew real ales because it costs more to produce and serve (ie you have to train the staff rather than put untrained monkeys in the pubs). Heard / read somewhere a couple of years ago that in one year one Bass spent less than £100 in marketing on real ales, and several million on lagers and alcopops - because that's what people want apparently, well of course they do if you spend millions promoting them!!
First registered trademark in this country? The Bass red triangle. Sad that the company doesn't exist any longer, Coors seem hellbent on shutting it down, and the beer called 'Bass' is brewed by Marstons, now owned by Wolverhampton & Dudley Breweries.
Anyway, back to my bottle of Tangle Foot.....

My favourites are Jennings Bitter, Timmy Taylors Landlord, and Coniston Bluebird. There's no need to brew any others!
