No I buy a bag of bon bon's and give them a good shake. Then empty out the bon bons and Im just left with powder.

Im friendly with the girl on the sweet stall on the market, and she says she is going to save the powder from the bottom of the big jars they have.

If you see a trail of red dust around Edale or the Three Peaks you know the dates and bon bon combo is working

It does make the dates taste yummy.

    Cheers
    Jamie

Some nails being hit on the head here.

I do get bad cramp at distance and jelly babies/sports drinks become nauseating after a while, so much so I really can't bear even looking at them late on. I tried sports gel once and it was like having a huge gonger in your gob.

Maybe I had better try those gels you mention to avoid the cramp, and wash em down with water.

    Thanks guys.

The SIS go gels do not actually need to be washed down with water (one of the few that don`t) but as said earlier hydration is as important.

what about stuffing the bonbon-powder coated dates with marzipan or a jelly baby just to satisfy those of us with a sweet tooth...

At Edale last year, I had Highland toffee bon bons and dates, I achieved my only ever top half finish in a long race. These things work, take the plunge.

I love jelly babies but couldn't agree more about the sports drinks. I wanted to puke badly at the end of the Great North Run after drinking (probably too much) lucozade sport.

I fuel up on bananas, honey and peanut butter sarnies before a run and stick to chocolate, marzipan (melts easily in the mouth) and water on the way round.
I have promises to keep and miles to go before I sleep.

On the old forum in a similar thread there were lots of suggestions to help with salt intake. Pork scatchings were mentioned several times. I like the SIS gels but I am still unsure if they do me any good. I am suffering from cramp these days which is something that has never hapenned before

Yeah on the subject of salty food, I read an article on the "Tring to Town" ultra where the writer had scoffed a load of pretzels on the way round.
