Was tempted, part of the club road champs so will be loads of other Eryri runners, but 13 miles fast in a cast won't be comfortable.

    yep - PB attempt

current PB is 2:02, so determined to crack 2hrs

have binned Long Slow Runs, as they don't seem to work for me, and have replaced with a steady diet of Long Slightly-Above-Lactate-Threshold Runs

hoping to hold 8:50-9:00 pace for a time of about 1:56-1:58

Have done this one for the last couple of years, quite a flat route if I remember. Did think of doing it again but would probably go for the Radcliffe 12m Trail race providing I'm okay after the Parbold Hill Race on Sat.

    Good luck cracking 2hrs Daz.

I have absolutely no idea what a lactate threshold run is, let alone a long, slightly above one . Daz forget the science and just have a good run. I sometimes wonder at the logic of running as flat as possible half marathons in search of a pb - I always find running a half marathon with hills better as it gives me all the excuses needed should things go pear shaped

These roadie types with their arcane jargon!

A lactate threshold or tempo run is one performed at the level of exertion where the body's anaerobic system begins to supplement the energy provided by the aerobic system. In practice, this is when you have enough puff to speak only in short two or three word sentences. The purpose of this type of run is to increase your tolerance to lactate build-up in the muscle and thus raise your lactate threshold, giving you better aerobic efficiency.

Apparently, the Kenyans swear by these runs and try to incorporate two into their weekly schedules. I find it is very difficult for me to keep to the right pace on the fells; I need to do these sessions on the flat!

    Re: Wrexham Village Bakery 1/2

holding a particular pace/rate of exertion on the flat for 2 hours is a different kind of challenge to off-road hilly running

I'm not saying I enjoy it, but it is a challenge!

oh, and I'm doing the Haweswater HalfMara in a couple of weeks, so plenty of excuses there!

after that, it's back to the hills (aaahhhh!) and train up for Kinder Downfall, Fairfield Horseshoe, Kinder Trog and Snowdon...
