No fellrunner should be without a copy.
These books come under the categories of:
    1. Biography
    2. Club History
    3. Training
    rather than the Fell Running.

Staying the Distance isn't a 'club history'. Its also a 'race history' , 'general area history' & 'biography'. And it is out of print. Almost.

    Help please,

I have searched the internet high and low and i cannot find a copy of bill smith studmarks on the summits. Does anyone on the forum know of a copy in a dusty secondhand book store somewhere or do any of you have any suggestions of where might be best to look. At the moment i've hit a bit of a roadblock. Any help much appreciated.

Theres been lots & lots of debate about this book (see sales & wants). It is very rare now. Copies sometimes pop up on ebay but expect to pay three figures for a copy !

I'm looking for a Turin Shroud and hope to find one in an Oxfam shop.

Seriously, as Anorak says, it's a very rare book. Even rarer than his history of running in/through Keighley. (Through makes more sense .) A copy shows up somewhere in the world every 6 months or so and commands a price starting at £125-£150.
Like you, many of us have searched high and low on the internet and sympathise with hitting that roadblock.
My dream is to locate a copy for 50p in a dusty secondhand book store.

I think you will, because sooner or later some enterprising publishing house is going to re-issue SMOTS at £10-£20. You might have to wait until you're into your forties, though. (Still nobbut a bairn!)
