3 Peaks recce - next week

Just discovered I've got a day off coming to me so plan to travel up and do a steady recce of some (or all) of the 3PR route. I've entered this year so I figure I need to get around at least once to know where I'm going!

Planning either next Tuesday 4th or Thursday 6th March.

Short notice I know but if anyone is interested then shout.

yes, its ok following flags but I also need to know that I can get round it, as its an intimidating course eh. Knowing whats around the corner helps alot.
    Good luck jodg.

Ta Mudlugger and ta for the PM. Same here, haven't run so far since TOP last year so it'll be good to bump up the miles.

    See you on 3PR day.

All change - have the chance to run an Edale Skyline recce with a guide next Tuesday so am going to go for that instead.

I wonder which is easier? 3PR or Edale?

Well I ran Edale on 15th Feb and the 3P on 23rd Feb, probably the latter at a slightly faster pace and they're both excellent.

The Edale route puts you on the tops most of the way so if the weather's cold and windy you won't get much if any respite whereas the 3P puts you higher and lower and on a recce demands more climbing. Ultimately because the 3P is longer, especially without being able to go route one up Whernside, expect to be on your feet longer.

    Swings and roundabouts.

Ta for that Stolly. I thought that the 3 Peaks might be a 'smidge' quicker on account of the long flat sections in between.

Edale's a lot nearer and, as I've never run it before, the chance is too good to miss. I've actually been trying one way or another to take part in the Skyline for the last 4 years but never quite managed due to a variety of reasons. About time I took a look!

Jodg go by the winning times to compare the two. Robb Jebb won the 3P last year in 2 hours 51 whilst he was 2 hours 29 for Edale (8 minutes behind the winner Lloyd Taggart at 2 hours 21). On that basis expect the 3P to take 20% longer

    Ta for the stats!

I gather this is a bit of a local race for you. Any idea what you'll be aiming for? The only other similar event I've run (apart from a road marathon) was Tanky's Trog, 23m 5000ft. I did that in 4 1/2 hours and was quite happy with that on the day.
