I'm doing it with a mate from CVFR. My guess is either Knoydart or Southern Cairngorms. We're taking the Friday off work but will be driving back to Lancashire straight after the race. How bad will the midges be in early June?

Bad
There's only one thing that is worse than the horror of the midges...

Now that would be good - the Glen Shiel / Knoydart one (?2000) was a lovely weekend. But logistically the road to Barrisdale would be a disaster with the LAMM traffic, the landing craft was a little inefficient (!), and the Sourlies side would be the other option. Hmmm.
Come on, everyone's had their 1st Scottish Midge experience. Once you've had that though you might not want to come back.

Having had the frustration of mosquito nets which midgies can fly straight through, this was an absolute blessing. Basically a Scottish company who couldn't find the perfect midge net so they designed and made their own.
who cares? it's always a good event. retrospectively, in any case... if not at the time. and the slit trenches are not that bad......really......

Looks good; do they do them for the bits between the gloves / sleeves, and ankles / leggings?!
The latrine - oh the horror, the horror <shudders>

[QUOTE=Ben B;112305]Doubtful! hehe. I think to truly combat the midge you'd need a full body midge net, even then one would get in somehow, or instigate a midge genocide! The marines based at some nuclear base in Scotland use Avon skin stuff, but it makes you stink like a grandma...
Other options include (i believe), rubbing stewed garlic into your skin, they won't come near you! But then again, neither would any human beings.
