So what is acceptable as emergency food? Is one energy bar allowed? Can you even take less than this ie just some jelly babies?

I usually take out with me jelly babies (ya can't beat 'em!), flapjack and sometimes a Mars bar. Seldom need to dig in except for the jelly babies. I've probably had the same Mars bar in my bag for the past 18 months!
I get those little freezer bags, put about 20 jelly babies in one, 3 or 4 mini mars bars in another and a handful of dried apricots in a third.
Aye, that's about all you need. Not as if you need loads of provisions on most races. I find there's seldom time to stop and partake unless you're looking at the 2 1/2 hour + races!
I thought 4 polo mints was the official recommendation .
No, no, that's for polo.....(geddit?)
For fell runners shouldn't it be Tracker bars....???
I make my own flapjack , it's a piece of cake ha ha. seriously it's easy and i add fruit etc.
Tinned peaches, they slip down a treat !!!
After climbing a great hill one only finds that there are many more hills to climb ......
I've been given the okay at fell race kit checks just carrying energy gels on longer races. Usually I'd take a Go bar with no intention of eating it.
The thing is it's supposed to be emergency food, some events will kit check some people at the end and if you've eaten all your jelly babies or all your gels, that means either you weren't carrying emergency food and were intending to eat it anyway, or you've had your emergency and should have dropped out the race, either way resulting in a disqualification.
As with all the safety equipment, there's the 'pass the kit check' kind and the 'would actually be of some use if something went wrong' kind.
The "fellsman" stipulates a fixed weight of food so I take the heaviest and therefore the smallest packsize, I use Marzipan plenty of sugar-fat and protein. It's also great to eat when you get home
