The affected areas causing the problems are the normal ascent route to Crag Hill, this is full of snow & ice, we looked at an alternative following the path to the west which involved ascending a large snow field. Not ideal. The summit is fine having had most of the snow blown off it & the descent to Sail is ok. The main problem is from the Sail/ Scar Crags col to the Stoneycroft track. The track is under alot of snow where the traverse is on a steep snowbound incline & this would pose too much of a risk to send runners over. Unfortunately this area is not getting any sun & with the forecast for it to remain cold (below freezing at night) for the rest of the week the decision was taken to revise the course to give people the opportunity to make their own choice. Barring any miraculous super thaw the revised course will be run this year & as you say Stumpy it's still a good challenging route. Hope to see you all there
If it was easy everyone would do it.
I'll be tehre! Nearly wasn't due to a tendon injury, but just about backup to fitness...
Given the recce, would you say the remaining snow/ice patches make it worth wearing something like an Oroc 340, or are normal fell shoes likely to be a better all round option?
thanks
Stumpy
Fell shoes with good grip will be best bet. If conditions remain as they are now then the only descent on snow/ice will be Grisedale Pike to Coledale Hause & a bit on the Stoneycroft Ghyll path, theres then a mixture of rocky paths, hard frozen grassy areas & a bit of slimy mud on Barrow.
Nick.

Just wondering if pre-entries sent to Mike have been forwarded to the new RO as I sent my cheque after reading info in the handbook.
Cheers,
Barry
Difficult decision but probably a wise choice Nick. Getting used to alternate routes after Causey on Saturday.
