Once upon a time Walshes did used to come fitted with little foam arch supports. I used to get pains in my arches if I didn't rip them out. They tended to fall out the first time the shoes got wet anyway .

Wet your Walshes before putting them on....that way you can tie the laces a lot tighter and stop them slipping round on your foot!

A line of Vaseline across your eyebrows so sweat doesn't drip down into your eyes and make 'em sting. Vaseline on nips and other chaffing points whilst you've got the lid off is also a good idea.

Don't assume there will be loo roll in portaloos or other race venue toilets - take your own.

Don't try new equipment/kit for the 1st time in a race just in case in falls short of expectation.

For those whose laces always come undone but don't want to tie a double knot because you can't undo them try puting the bows and ends of the laces under the lacing on your boots, Easy to undo and stops them snagging.
