Roast duck, with most of the veg from the garden. The duck was one of this years drakes that was "surplus to requirements", afraid I knocked him on the head 3 days ago, plucked and eaten tonight. But he had a good year, free range with lots of women till the end.
Just the carcass left to gnaw with another glass of wine
Another 3 in the freezer, yum, yum.

Pike: the first time I've seen that at our fishmonger's. My wife cooked it in a black pepper sauce with some ginger: really good. Also rice and stir-fried vegetables (leek, Brussels sprouts, red and yellow peppers).

Many years since I ate pike, interesting you found some and glad it was good eating. I remember them best for the tiny Y bones in the flesh that turned up in every mouthful. I take it you didn't choke!

The fishmonger did warn me about the bones, so we were well prepared.

Pike is one of those fish that, given a choice, you only eat once!

I've just eaten pike for the second time (and I did have the choice; it was me who bought it from the fishmonger).

You're not selling it! Normally bigger fish have bigger bones. Lots of tiny bones sounds a palaver. Do you have to pick them all out or is it like herrings, where you just put up with them? I'm not a fan of herring either.
