Never tried squirrel but it sounds like it could be nice...

Tebay Services Farm Shop.... 2 x "sheriff" sausage rolls and 1 x Scotch Pie
Scotch Pie nothing to write home about, but the sheriffs were close to perfection.

The cake spread at Howgills was immense and I tested many of them. Alas I didn't do the race to warrant the intake and helping out didn't burn off enough energy to do so

Is there much meat on the bones in a squirrel?
In his lifetime he suffered from unreality, as do so many Englishmen.

The meat on the hind legs (thighs)is very lean and tasty. Molehill is up there with the trendy Michelin diners who are going mad for it but I doubt he serves his with a jus!
Apparently there are not enough of them being shot to satisfy the demand.

As a teenager a local landowner used to pay my friend and I to shoot them. Not so he could eat them but to stop them eating his saplings. He also paid us for Wood Pigeon eggs which he did eat!

They are very nice, delicate flavour so don't need anything fancy done with them. But I do only choose the young ones for the freezer which are tender and don't need much cooking (also skin easy), the larger ones can be pretty tough!
I've trapped over 600 of the blighters round the village so can afford to be fussy and be silly to waste it all.
