The first English asparagus, and so pleased to find it on Otley market I even made proper hollandaise sauce to go with it. Followed by gooseberry crumble, got to use them up from the freezer before we get this years. Get so many more now I've built a fruit cage, the birds used to strip the bushes before they got anywhere near ripe. Hollandaise sauce is the ultimate health food - planning a long run tomorrow (beyond what we are supposed to do - don't tell) to check twelve apostles on Ilkley moor are still there.

A Barnsley Chop with all the trimmings, washed down with a few pints of Timothy Taylor Landlord to celebrate my wife's birthday at The Bulls Head in Monyash.

A very enjoyable and socially distanced evening even though in the next room there were a dozen campers, necking shots as if the world was coming to an end.

    The good days have returned!

Am I right in thinking they re-named the Bull’s Head at one time? Something maybe Tolkien related?

Any day where a Barnsley chop is involved is a good day

What is now the Bulls Head at Foolow was the Lazy Landlord for many years which I think is a reference to Tolkien.

For a short period in the early 1980s the inn was called The Lazy Landlord when it was briefly owned as part of a small local chain of pubs all given names from Tolkeins books, but it then reverted to its historic title.

I don't know which other pubs are referred to here.

    You are DT.

Some bright spark, trying to make it trendy, decided to call it the Hobbit.

It didn't work, as trendy and Monyash do not go together!

It has been The Bulls Head since Sharon, the current owner, took it on over 30 years ago.

On a similar theme, around the same time the Royal Oak in Eyam, which is now closed, for a few years was called the Prancing Pony.

Apparently, locals called it the Bonking Donkey!
