I have asics gel torana 2. They are trail shoes and ive run on all terrain and they are brilliant (-never had a blister) and they also come in a variety of colours. I got mine from simplyrun.com because i looked around and found they where the cheapest there. I cant find anything wrong with them.

I'm surprised Baggins hasn't been on this thread. He wears Montrails for many of his epic runs in the Lakes and seems to get on OK with them.

I have to agree with Trossachs though, the Saucony Grid Jazz 7000 is excellent off road, despite being a 'road' shoe. As long as it's not too muddy

The big differential is whether you wants studs or not.

The montrails have studs (Two Towels) - I've had Asics Gel Guts (from where I think the Torano's have descended) and they were great for a non-studded shoe that'd handle trails, bit of dry fell and some road. I've got some Saucony Off-Road something-or-others (they're goretex lined) and they are similar to the Asics performance-wise.

Pays yer money and all that.

I use Nike Air Steens for my mixed-terrain running - grippy enough for most non-extreme conditions and fine on the roads.
Fell, road, track, XC... it's all good running.

I've just got a pair of highalnders and I think they're ok. That said I've only worn them for one run, so we'll see how they go. Watch this space.

Ended up going to Sportshoes and trying loads of shoes on. Tried the Puma trailfox, not that comfy. Saucony jazz, nice fit just didn't like them. Mizuno, didn't even try on. lighter than they look but just not for me. Adidas trail shoes, nike pegasus, etc etc. Pretty much every shoe in the shop.

Ended up with Nike Kyotee shoes. Think I have made a good choice as very comfy and grippy on woodlands and trails. Felt light and good on roads and cheap enough for me to get a decent pair of road shoes as well.
