BG, Ramsay & PB in a year

Congratulations to Gavin Thomas of Kendal AC on completion of a Paddy Buckley Round last weekend in less than 22.5 hours. This completes a "triple" of the classic 24 hour challenges. Gavin did the Bob Graham Round in May 2007 and the Ramsay Round in July 2007. This is surely the first time this has been done within 12 months?

Well done to Gavin, but you are well off the mark Chas. Helene Diamantides, now Helene Whitaker, did all 3 of these rounds in one summer ( it might have been in one month ). I'd have to trawl through my old back copies of the FRM but it was either very late 80's or very early 90's. PLUS, Helene set a ladies record on each round, I seem to recall.

Congrats Gavin, brilliant stuff. Sadly you are not the first, WD is correct, Helene DT's did it in 1989 i think, knocked them off over a month or so, got a feeling Adrian Belton did as well, though I am a bit hazy about that. Anne Stentiford did 2/3 in a month and Mike Hartley, I think, did all three continuously in about 3 and a bit days, the Paddy Buckley(his third) was over 24hrs though, lightweight
    Better check the records.

I don't usually go in for congratulatory messages on the forum, but Gavin's achievement is outstanding, even if it's not a record. So "Well done Gavin!"

Nearly 12 months on from last year's BG I've just recovered enough to start thinking about having another long day out. Although we had a great time on our round last Summer, I realise now that the Ibuprofen at Wasdale made me blissfully unaware of any damage I might have been doing to my achilles from there to Keswick!

How anyone can be so physically strong to contemplate another round within a month or two of finishing one is beyond me.

Congratulations to Gavin, a tremendous acheivement.

Both Helen and Adrian did the triple in 1989 - Adrian took just 29 days. They both did their final BGR round together in 19-11. As stated above this was a ladies record, although it was improved by Ann Stentiford in1991 with 18-49.

Perhaps there is a new generation of runners ready to challenge some of these remarkable acheivements!!

You're right Toffer - it was in 1990 I believe and took Mike about 3.5 days to do the 3 rounds, including being driven between them. Incredible stuff!

Yes well done to Gavin. John Fleetwood did the big 3 in winter within a 12 month period IIRC. I was with him on the final section of his 3rd round - Snowdon section.
