What with all the Brexit excitement, I completely forgot to mention that I heard my first Chiffchaff of the year on my way to work on Monday (it was there again this morning). Not surprisingly, this was 9 days earlier than last year. Wheatear next, maybe?

No sign of a chiff here Geoff yet. I’ve been up local path where I had my first last spring last three days without a sight or sound. Best I could manage today - a pair of handsome mistle thrush and a heron (not common here)

First bats of the year flying around our house in Otley tonight, after a lovely warm day.

Good point. I saw a few bats tonight too. I know what a chiffchaff sounds like now, so I'm looking forward to taking part in this discussion this year.

The Curlew are back around Kinder. I was on Mill Hill last night and heard one down below near Ashop Head, then as I walked over Leygatehead Moor there was at least one more, possibly two. Also plenty of Lapwing around the Shooting Cabin area.

Still waiting a chiff but I did hear a curlew calling while I was at home yesterday afternoon

Can’t be long now for a wheatear Geoff. Both Bradford and Calderdale birders’ blog reported them seen yesterday

Yes, Wheatear have been reported on the Derbyshire Ornithological Society Site (and a Ring Ouzel in the Goyt Valley). Of course they might have been around last night, but I wouldn't have seen them! We'll be walking around Kinder on Saturday, so I'll be on the look-out!

Scraps of chiffage heard today albeit off-patch. Also heard drumming GSW, plus good views of grey wagtail and goldcrest
