The way some moors are managed is a travesty for wildlife, especially as they are often subsidised to the tune of £50+/hectare. You are very lucky to be in the Northern Peak District, my only sighting of a mountain hare was during the Mickleden Straddle a couple of years ago.

I was discussing on FB earlier this week. I've seen more Deer, peregrines, Ring ouzels and Hares in the peak this year than any other year. Great to see.
I was doing a little 5 miler up Pendle Hill this morning and I passed a group of people crowded round something on the track alongside Lower Ogden reservoir. They had their phone cameras out and it turned out it was a Butterfly? (Red Admiral or Peacock I couldn't tell from where I was looking). When I returned the same way another group of people were gathered round it as well.
No country for old men.
Probably a Red Admiral according to website ! http://www.britishbutterflies.co.uk/
