Friday in Lancashire : a skein of pinkies heading NW and later a small group of waxwing in a tree near my biggest customer. There have been waxwing reported in Halifax recently but it’s not somewhere I go to really so to spot some and in a familiar environment was a real treat

Hare crossing the road in front of me on my cycle ride, near Seagrave.
In his lifetime he suffered from unreality, as do so many Englishmen.

The red kites in Wales only watch rugby, football is for buzzards

Skylark assending - the first of the year for me, heard while trudging and huffing up to the local trig, in the wonderful fullness of today's spring sunshine.

Reminded me of Robert MacFarlane's poem:

    LARK

Little astronaut, where have you gone, and how is your
    Song still torrenting on?

Aren’t you short of breath as you climb higher, up there
In the thin air, with your magical song still tumbling on?

Right now I need you, for my sadness has come again
And my heart grows flatter – so I’m coming to find
    You by following your song.

Keep on into deep space, past dying stars and
Exploding sums, to where at last, little astronaut
You sing your heart out at all dark matter.

While out last night, filling the coal-bucket, I also heard my first Lapwing's call (the territorial one) of the year, from across the lane, in the starry meadow. They're back!

I saw a pair this afternoon looking as if they were having a late Valentines Day!

Saw what appeared to be a small group of Muntjac in Glen Shiel today?

I was under the impression they didn't get that far north, and were being culled as an invasive species?

Of course my wildlife identification skills are notoriously poor, it may well have been a type of deer, but it had those backward facing horns.

Edit: having done some research, it seems it was more likely a group of Roe Deer?

08.50 - 08.55 this morning, a cuckoo calling at the top of Rigg Lane, on Beacon Fell.
I was a bit of an oddball until I was abducted by aliens; but I'm perfectly OK now!
