Yours is sound advice and will bear this in mind for my attempt in September. I'm just focussing on best lines off peaks and around stuff at the moment.
Think this might be useful though, from the description of the Cumbrian Traverse;
"note that on Grey Knotts the top is a rocky tor near the fence. On Great End, the two tops have less than 1 metre of height difference so either can be counted; purists will of course visit both" (ref; Gofar.org.uk)

Next w/e I am supporting a Joss Naylor attempt and that is exactly what I will be doing, first the OS summit then the Harvey cairn since they line up conveniently in the right direction. But when doing a BG I usually do the first cairn only.
