    Resevoir Bogs 21st June

Never done this one before, how tricky is the navigation? checked results from last year and several people didnt make cut off. Also are the CP already overprinted on the map when you get it? cheers

    Hi egor

The check points were on the map. There is also an earlier start time if you are worred about the cut off.

    See the link.

    Hope this helps

Please leave a good trail for the rest of us to follow.

cheers, id seen the earlier start time but im not sure i cld handle starting earlier and seeing loads of people flying past me, i think id prefer to be 'cut off'. Is the nav reasonable (weather etc depending)

    Hi Egor,

Thanks for starting a thread on this race - I'd been meaning to do the same.

Its hard to define, but yes I'd say its "reasonable". Mostly on paths, and mostly to easy to recognise checkpoints. Also, there's no staggered start so to some degree there is follow the leader (at risk of course!).

Some local knowledge is definitely a huge advantage so my strategy, as last year: follow Tussockface

I was second last in the field to avoid the cut off, and the person behind me overtook me by finding a better line to the finish. So I'm nervous about the drop this year, but I too would prefer not to be constantly overtaken!

I believe that those missing the cut off had problems with the time rather than the navigation.

Don't forget the other two races run over the same weekend: Wicken Hill Whizz and Tom Tittman, this is a perfect weekend.

You may say that about my final triumphant line from Churn Milk Joan, but I didn't hear much applause as we hacked and stumbled our way down to the reservoir through chest-high bracken.....! That definitely wasn't the optimum route.

Don't forget the small print on the entry form: anyone following a runner in a Calder Valley vest does so at their own risk (or words to that effect).

See you there again, if injury permits.

    .
And of course, the other obvious drawback to this strategy is that anyone actually following me is liable to miss the cut-off in any case.

Heh - chest high bracken is much quicker running that most terrains, well known fact!

(by the way, don't forget that I owe you some beers to make up for last year's carnage. I've now got a small and light MX-5, so there should only be minimal damage when I smash into your bumper this year)

Hmmm, yes, I'd forgotten that...following me across Wadsworth Moor is one thing, but trying to come home in my car boot as well is taking things a bit too far.

Where abouts will you be parking Tussockface?

I'd like to practice my navigation and park as far away as is humanly possible.
