The boggy muddy smell in shoes

    Alright there.

Just wondering if anyone has any top tips here. I often find that after going iankle/shin-deep into a squelchy black bog, I simply can't get rid of that rancid aroma from my fell shoes, no matter how I clean them and dry them.

Obviously I don't leave them under my bed, and obviously they are fell shoes not fancy ballet shoes, but it would be good to be able to get rid of that boggy smell!!

    Thoughts welcome.

Are you sure its the bog that smells? Its just that my fell shoes smell sweet all of the time, both in and out of bogs

Well, it's a bit of both I guess, but squelchy bogs seem to really do it. Do you just let yours smell sweet? Maybe it shouldn't bother me!

I never used to wash my shoes but after reading (here ?) that peat bog contains a substance that can rot the stitching I now always wash them.
Quite honestly I have never sniffed them but did now & they (Walshes) are fine.

    Regards,

    Max.

P.S. Addidas shoes have a reputation, allegedly, for being "smelly".

Find an even more obnoxious place to end your run, e.g a farmyard full of cow manure, then your bog smell will be very sweet.
