    Red Kite Challenge

This weekend is the 5th Red Kite Challenge. There are 2 races through stunning scenery in the cambrian mountains. The 1st race is 12 miles ish, a medium B cat. race. All off road, takes in beautiful woodland, moorland and astonishing vistas to equal views from the top of any british mountain.

The 2nd race is lower-key, 18 miles through slightly less severe countryside.

both races present an extreme physical challenge

there is vast quantities of bara brith (fruitcake) afterwards

is anyone planning on doing these?

I can't make it this year as my wife is working & I'm looking after the kids. Last year we went down & camped for the weekend & I did both races.

Possibly my best weekend of 2007. Great races.
I've just decided I don't trust you anymore.

Yes, it's a great weekend. Saturdays race is from the Nant-y-Arian visitor centre which lots of you will know from mountain biking. There's a cafe there and childrens play area so if you have family along it's an ideal spot. On Sunday the longer race is from Woodlands caravan and camping site in Devils Bridge (a nice spot to stay for the weekend), again there is a cafe, walks to the waterfalls, tons of space for the kids. There are also 'challenge walks' arranged if there are some in your group who don't want to run but do want to see some of the routes.

As Pilchards said saturdays race usually gets a good turnout and is a tough little race with great scenery, on Sunday there are usually fewer entries but there deserve to be more each year as it's a wonderful route following trails through really diverse, beautiful scenery ( I admit I'm biased I live close by).
If you're looking for some fun running this weekend come and give these two a go.

Choices, choices....Was seriously tempted, but am instead off to a lady friend's birthday bash in Poole, so (hangover permitting) it'll be a trot around Poole Harbour instead.

I would also be there again if:

    a) My achilles wasn't totally shot and not run a yard for 5 weeks.
    b) The Missus wasn't walking the 42 mile across Wales starting 4.00am on Saturday morning.
