    Running clubs?

Right im abit unsure what running clubs are all about.
When i was younger i was approached by Preston Harriers because i came
2nd out of 100 in a cross country race when i was running for my school.
But i didnt really know what a running club entailed and i felt pressured that i would have to perform really well if i ever ran for the club.

So if you join the club, what as the pro's and cons?.

Could you just become a member, go a training when ever you can and buy a vest and wear it at races.

Or do you have to be serious about it and training at every session without missing any.

During the summer i play cricket sat and sunday and training on a thursday so i couldnt always be available to race and train with the club.

    What do you all think!

Join a club and you will have other people to train with (if you want), other people to race with and travel to races with (if you want) and if you want to be really serious find a club who do really serious training and do it.

Go along to some training sessions and meet some of the people and if you like them, what they do and how they do it then think about joining.

    Where are you based?

Ask on here about local clubs because there may be forumites in a club near you?

Most clubs run all year round and and have socials, you could probably just meet up in the pub after others have run if you want.

A number of clubs also do night runs over the fells with head torch, these are brilliant but make sure you carry the correct kit and you know where you are in case you accidently wander. Ask MattH, he'd never been on a night run until he joined Dark Peak and now he loves 'em.

Go out for a run with 2-3 local clubs and see where you fit in best.

    Re: Running clubs?

On monday i posed my membership off to join Preston Harriers.

Today i have recieved a temporary membership card.

It says my application will be presented at the next committee meeting. Is there a chance i could get rejected?

Is the tempory card just their way of saying they've recieved my application?

The next meeting is 08.12.08, and i should get my card 2 weeks after that - so that works out around christmas.
