I almost feel intimidated asking such a question but, is there a general concensus about the right footware for a 'traditional' BG attempt? I'm sure this must have been discussed before but shoe styles change so fast and sox are a study worthy of degrees in their own right.
During the recce trips I have used shoes dictated by that days weather and route so it has not been an issue and sox have always been original Smartwool, before they went all technical on me but stocks are running low now.
A traditional BG would involve plimsols, no sox and a pyjama jacket.
Within reason I think the biggest issue is comfort. You should wear a combination that has already proven to be comfortable for long outings.
At the BG pace, performance/grip is a secondary issue. If you can get a shoe that gives you both it's a win-win!
