    Running the Mary Townley Loop

Has anyone done it and how hard is it to run? A couple of years ago I did the bike ride round it, but looking at doing a charity challenge next year that might be acheivable with training.

    Hi Vince,
I did it earlier in the year. It's not too bad, if like me, your not bothered about how long it takes (took me over 11 hours).
Worse bits were, getting lost in Whitworth, and the amount of mud in places, although I did do it after weeks of rain.
Best bits, saw very few other people (I'm not very socail), and peanut butter sandwiches that I ate whilst looking down into the Calder Valley from high on the hillside above Cliviger.

There is a 100 mile ultra which uses the Townely loop as the guts of the race, it starts nr glossop and follows the pennine bridleway and joins the loop at summit. (26miles-47miles-26miles)

the race is organised by Ambition Events £125!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They also organise a duathlon which has the same run legs but has two laps of the townley loop (26miles-94miles-26miles)

winning times are under the 30 hour mark, and there has only been one finisher in the duathlon

Harveys produce a map of the pennine bridleway which has the townley loop marked out, which is handy.

Also, i think there is about 3700ft of climb on the loop

Hi, thanks for the comments. I have run/biked different sections of it in the 11 years living near it, and thought it would be fun Funnily enough, unless they have removed sections of it, I can remember the majority, the rest marked on my map!
11 Hours sounds a good time to aim for, maybe I should set 10 hours as the target!!
