    Fan y Big (Snowdon warmup)

Just come back from recce'ing the Fan y Big Horseshoe route in my injured and unfit condition, on the most beautiful evening, and couldn't resist ranting about what a lovely route this is....
The locals say "Van uh beeg", but you can call it Fanny Big if you want. It's a nice warmup for Snowdon - 10.1m / 2200ft. Sunday 20th, part of the Brecon Fans Race Weekend (with PyF on saturday).
Lovely grassy runners route, without any danger of getting smeared on rock.
New race last year, 1:14.49 win, but most people will do a time bang on Snowdon time. Last year I did 1:20:31 at FyB and 1:20.45 at Snowdon, but that's coz I slowed down to let Scary Mary beat me
    Come and get it...

Really looking forward to this weekend, sounds like there's plenty of good pubs in the area, although I'm a bit worried about the descent on the short race, one of the blokes at our club reckons that one year the winner of the race took the lead by leaping over the head of the race leader?!

yeah coming off Pen y Fan is quite steep, and legend has it Keith Anderson pretty much flew off it to set the record in 1992 after reaching the summit in 3rd place. I'm told someone has a video, but it's under-the-counter stuff. Anyway the descent is quite soft underfoot, so just go for it.
NB the descent of Fan Y Big is tough too - just goes on and on and on...
I can't wait to see how the Ghurkas get on - there's a bunch coming over from Borneo, after a stint in Helmand, to do the Brecon Fans races. Life must be pretty dull in Helmand!

Might give this race a go.Any local campsites or B&B anyone can recommend ? A good 90 min drive for me,so would rather go on the sat.Would do the sat race but working on the sat morning.
Will Maps be handed out at registration,or am i putting my hands in my pocket ?
