I think you inadvertently get to the nub of the matter Mike. This is the problem with the BBC. Its journalists increasingly present their liberal, woke, pro EU views as being factual. And consider anybody with a contrary view to be a flat earther.

Even then, I would still expect the presenter to be respectful to the flat earther, not set about them like a crazed harridan.

    Mmmh.

I think, on reflection and trying to take all relevant issues into account, on balance, there are probably sound arguments on both sides to support the view, without being dogmatic, or wishing to display any apparent bias that, with an even handed approach and the best will in the world, there is probably or at least possibly, some merit in the point of view that that is a fair point to make.

I notice durham police now conclude Cummings broke lock down law.
Having previously declared "no further action" when they were notified when he was at the house.

Was it ever going to be different?

    Another witchunt.

It is just like when the electoral commission abused its powers to go after all leading brexiteers, failed to investigate remain abuses, and worst of all ignored rampant socialist abuses at the last general election. (see "vote-fraud" if you want to see more..)

I hope he fights it, I expect him to be vindicated in due course (to total silence by the press)
Time for the Labour MPs who broke lockdown to also be sanctioned, including corbyns wife.
    but they wont of course.

Cummings is singled out both as a brexiteer, and because he is determined to deal with the civil service frustration of government powers.

I hope Boris will stand firm.

Donald has threatened to shut down Twitter because he doesn't like their reaction. Good idea, maybe he needs to build a wall first.

It doesn't appear that Corbyn is bothering with social distancing rules at all.

I'm sure the Guardianistas will be just as furious with him as they are with Cummings.

Whatever Durham Police have said, the press seem to be in disagreement. Scan through a few and you find did, might have and didn't

    That's cleared it up then.

The difference between the media treatment of Cummings and Corbyn is not party-political bias, it's just the fact that Cummings is at the centre of government whereas Corbyn is now totally irrelevant. Cast your mind back to the Blair years, when Alistair Campbell (his nearest equivalent of Cummings) got just as much vitriol from the media.

Cummings could have showed a bit of contrition, and explained that he was feeling desperate and made a hasty decision which may not have been the right one; people might have felt some sympathy with him as a fellow human. Instead he carried on with his arrogant insistence that he had done nothing wrong; so there remains no evidence to support the proposition that Dominic Cummings is a human being. Worse still, Boris supported him in this; Boris had got a lot of public sympathy for behaving well when he himself had Covid, and that probably helped to make the public comply with the guidance. Now Boris has lost all that political capital, as the opinion polls are showing.

For two men whose reputations are for great political astuteness, this is a remarkable turn-around: the triumph of arrogance over astuteness.
In his lifetime he suffered from unreality, as do so many Englishmen.

    now?

I thought the contrition was in his statement from the Downing St garden. He did reflect that he might have sought clearance from the PM before he left to head up North, but it was the health condition of the PM that stopped him doing that.
The Police have said the trip was not in breach, so I'm not sure what the contrition would be for anyway.

I'm sorry the press are such twats perhaps?

The first opportunity might not be until then end of 2024, which has probably featured in Boris' decision.
