A scorcher for todays Peak Forest race. The 107 entrants were more than expected, and as the organisers only order numbers up to 100 a bit of imagination with some old numbers and a black felt pen saw everyone on the start line for the 11.15 bell.
A fast tarmac start and the long drag up the Limestone Way set us on the route which has been described above. I was ticking over nicely in around 25th place until the final pull up to Eldon Hill where I overtook 8 others, who broke into a walk, whilst I was able to keep running. Only one of them managed to run me down on the final half mile tarmac stretch to the finish and on catching me said " we must be near the end lets burn it up" . I declined to take the bait as he looked 40 years younger than me!
I finished 17th overall and 1st M60 in 49.31. Still a lovely village race with tea and delicious cakes to be purchased in the Village Hall at the end.
