    Re: Todays Bike Ride

I'm about to start doing 1-2 bike rides a week. Probably 20 hilly miles as part of a new training regime.

Q When climbing steep hills on the bike is sitting down or standing up better for RUNNING? Comments welcome

Always keep bikes in the house, they really like it. There are four and a half in my very small house!

The bikes love it in the house... I don't love them being there quite as much

First proper ride for years, a bit nervous of slicks on the hairpins in the wet but I guess it will come with practise.

21 miles with 700m of climbing in 1.45 hours Beautiful morning but with a cool wind. I've decided that old montrails with there mesh tops are not the best thing to ride in ,my feet got a bit cold on the long descents.
Roll on the next ride, a longer I think.

Nice 1. Did you go over the Strines? If so, I bet you were out of your seat on the climb out of Low Bradfield.

Going back to your previous post the advice is always along the lines of staying in the saddle and grinding it out on hills but when it gets really steep you are forced to come out. I tend to come out of t'saddle quite alot which probably explains why I am shot to pieces after a full day's riding wheras Mrs GW looks fine and dandy after grinding just about everything out in the seat. Just do whatever feels comfortable.

Why the new training regime - is it owt to do with that photo????

No need to get out of the saddle, Went up Blindside Lane, very quiet and not very steep just a looooonnnnnng climb. The two toughest climbs were back up to Bar Dike and up to Bolsterstone from Ewden where i had to get out for the last very steep bit. I'm still working out what gear I'm comfortable in on the long/steep climbs.

New regime is to try and get a bit more speed and fittness. The picture just caught me in bad light Normally there is a full on 6 pack

    Re: Todays Bike Ride

Local classic mtb route this morning. Started from home in Addingham, over Roman Road to Skipton, up the Grassington road towards Cracoe, then bridleway over Barden Moor ('Black Park') on to Bolton Abbey over fields and through woods and back home through Beamsley village.
