Been out for a pep talk ride with coach early eve and feeling a tad better about things... Still not sure I can keep up the racing mind...

The coach is your problem! Ditch him, ditch racing, free your mind and just enjoy the fact that you live in some of the most glorious cycling terrain in the country! Who cares how fast? Who cares how clean the bike is? Just get out and pedal when it suits as an antidote to stress, not a cause of it! You daft thing!!

I would second what Wheeze says, 100%. The coach may be very good - but he ain't the one stressed out, under pressure and not enjoying the cycling! I have the same attitude to fell running these days, hiking, running, walking, jogging, I don't give a damn so long as I'm out there enjoying the hills and exploring new places. Racing doesn't appeal anymore (plus my body is too knackered to make racing fitness :thunbdown.

Cycle and enjoy for a while .

Han, both you and Wheeze have good points.
Just keep cycling while you can.

I have just spent 3 nights in hospital all wired up to heart machines because my pulse on Sunday was down in the low 30's.
    Normally 45 to 48 resting.
I have seen 3 consultant's and their verdicts were a virus, along with tiredness and an increase in fitness had all conspired to lower my HR.
I am back some where round normal and have had no drugs what so ever. Just a bed, rest and 3 days of boredom + worry that I may never run or cycle again.
Now home again and have to build up steady over next month.
70% max this week, 80% next week and so on.

So enjoy your cycling while you can, JUST FACTOR IN THE REST AND STRESS FREE DAYS.

Stagger, that sounds scary! You must have had quite a fright?

My first road race of the season is Sunday, I just heard I got a place, and am feeling a tad nervous now... easing myself towaqrds it genlty with a few short, easy spins after last nights REALLY HARD hill sprints...

It was a fright for family and me. Hopefully the rest will do me good and I can get back to exercising regulary.

All the best in your race, make sure you are fully prepared early enough (in all aspects, food, bike and mentally) but don't put undue pressure on yourself.

Get to race day focused but relaxed and give it maximum.

    All the best Han.

I wish this place had more hills.
And I Keep thinking of the ride near my mum house: 21km one way, ONE hill, 2000m elevation gain.
    Fabolous.
