Problem is a lot of these older frames come from the era of a snapped frame just being one of those things, take the vitus 979 for instance which would fall apart for fun, in these days of litigation the frame builders would no longer get away with it.

90min on the MTB yesterday, followed by a 60min intervals session on the turbo trainer.

And exactly the same again today.

fairly hard 27m blast out to Ilkley Cycles and back, with a latte stop at the shop. The 53/42 rings on the Alan are much more suitable for flipping between on A roads, 53/39 on the Raleigh is quite a jump.

Does anyone know what causes front end 'wobble' on a road bike? I was down on the drop headindown hill at speed and it just started up- pretty unnerving tbh. Is it geometry related???

Edit: I tend to lean on the bars quite heavily because the frame is slightly too big for me, i can get away with it because i'm lanky and gangly like an Orang-Utan. Any ideas, Graham?

An enormous posterior would probably cause such a thing.

I get it above 50 mph but I attribute it to terror!

Down to the tyre/ road surface I reckon, I've had it on the same bike 'sometimes' but not all of the time.

Mr B, the most likely explanation is that your headset is a little loose and needs a little tweak to tighten it up. You can check this by holding your front brake on and seeing if there is a rocking movement at the front end. If you get a front end wobble from this it is typically at speed and downhill and can be terrifying! If you do get the wobble, relax, easier said than done, especially your grip on the handle bars, loose touch only, lay a knee against the cross bar and it will gradually resolve. There other reasons for a wobble, wheel and fork issues predominantly, headset most likely though and the thing to check first.
