About 32 miles, rather hilly and with a bit of off-road. Passed through the nutritious village of Barton-in-the-Beans, and also Ravenstone, Shackerstone and Barlestone (and with a few diversions of no more than 3 miles off the route I could have visited seven more "-stone" villages). Perfect weather: not too hot, light winds, excellent visibility.
In his lifetime he suffered from unreality, as do so many Englishmen.

First an anecdote which made me chuckle while riding: The Tour de France is owned by ASO (Amaury Sports Association) founded by Emilien Amaury, a publisher. ASO own L'Equipe. Amaury was extremely right-wing, caused the longest printers' strike in France and was loathed by left-leaning newspapers such as Liberation.

Amaury died after falling from a horse which Liberation reported as:

"Amaury falls from horse: horse is safe."

The ride?: 32 miles/3700 feet: Clapham - Bowland Knotts - Slaidburn - Cross of Greet - Bentham - Clapham.

Both climbs are in the Cycling Climbs of... books by Simon Warren who describes the landscape as "awesome". Human beings are scarce.

I am going to try to get an appointment with my GP on Monday and request that she will give me a prescription for a new bike!

What brand and spec would you recommend?

To keep the obesity at bay a Ridley or Cube CX bike would do very nicely, please Dr!

Hmm, perhaps there will be a "cycle to fitness" program with massive discounts on bikes for obese people who are referred by their GP.
May have to stuff some pillows down my trousers and lead in my pockets
Don't roll with a pig in poo. You get covered in poo and the pig likes it.

You musn't be too picky - so say any bike will do as long as it is in celeste.

Boris said you can have £50 to repair (upgrade) your bike.

Yes. The scheme open for registration as of 2345hrs tonight on The Energy Saving Trust website.

Only 500,000 vouchers available and a max of 2 per household. I've just been chatting to my local bike mechanic and she is/has registered as an approved repairer.

So it will be, stand by your keyboards, later!
