    Which Club

So I’m considering joining a club, mainly so that I‘ll have people to run with during the winter evenings preferably off run, and I’m after recommendations.
My nearest would be Macclesfield but I can get to Whaley Bridge in 15 mins or equally I could get to Hayfield easily from work.
So which would you recommend (I’m interested in the fell running side of the club only) either Macclesfield Harriers, Goyt Valley Striders or Penine?

Pennine is just a fell running club - a very friendly sociable one!

Pennine training is on Thursday evenings at 7.00 p.m. from the Royal Hotel in Hayfield. Most people run off road even on dark winter evenings!

If you are interested in joining Pennine you can obtain a membership application form from:

    Novice,

All 3 are full of keen active fell runners who are a cracking good bunch too!

Like MargC I'm mostly of the PFR persuasion, so maybe a bit biased, suffice to say you would be welcome to turn up on Thurs Eve's, normally a trot around Kinder & her flanks, although we do do speed training etc as well. Thursday sessions are open to all comers, and normally there are a few from other clubs and/or non-members.... always a mixed vibrant bunch with pelnty of banter!

Post training Lemonade (strong & weak) is always enjoyed in the Royal from 8.30'ish....

Your welcome to PM me if you want to know more.....

More Hayfield/Local stuff here too http://www.cs.man.ac.uk/~temples/hc/

Right haven't actually got any further with this but considering again.

Can anyone tell me what Macc harriers and Goyt Valley are like? Pennine sounds good from the above posts.

Im a great believer that you should be a member of your local club not some cobbled together collective of runners from far and wide. If you live in Macclesfield then Macceslfield Harriers it should be.( and a good fellrunning club too)

What about me then I live in Ilkeston

Lots of cobbled collectives as you call it can enjoy the fells as well. Look at Dark Peak.

Why not try out a night with all three. Pennine train on Thursdays, G.V. on Tuesdays and no idea about Macc Hs. Or look at it this way: which post-training refreshment venue is the easiest to get back from on foot/bike? Pennine are at the Royal which is a good few hills between Hayfield and you. Whaley is still a big climb which probably leaves Macc.

...and what about the looks you'll get from your neighbours when you're in your first race and you turn out in Pennine/GV colours!
