Rocklites are my personal fave, I found I can get away with 2 miles of road use in them before the ol' knees start tingling so they are perfect for 'trail' races that use roads to link up paths. They are also good on rocky terrain, dry grass and useful on descent, I'm confident in these if it is not raining, grip on wet grass is bad.
I tried Mudclaws but thought that the size I took was a bit big (Has anyone else found that?) normally I'm a 10 but the 10's are all other the place. These seem pretty good in winter conditions and gave me an amazing feeling of confidence on steep wet fell. (even though I was slipping around inside them)
One of my friends has flyrocs and loves 'em he says that the grip is good enough for cross country. And my girlfriend has been using Terrocs for walking as she is pregnant and can't run anymore. She thinks they are good light walking shoes. Apparently you can get away with a few road miles in these because there's a bit more cushioning.
As I've tried everything else I think I will try Mudrocs this year, I'm using Walshes for the moment, but have issues with them over long distance.
I wouldn't buy the Gore Tex Inov 8's. It's just a way to sell them to the walking/outdoor market (ie; if it's got a gore tex badge on it then it must be really good). The normal shoes are really superb at shedding water - Just wear a woollen mix sock and stay warm.
Got to agree, Roclites are my choice. Out most days on trail, grass, tarmac mix and these give the right balance for me. I've used them on long distance too, 23 mile mixed terrain, up Ingleborough when frosty and they seem to do the trick for me in most situations.
initially found Roclites good as fell need a bit of cushioning if route involves any road but they also handle the rough stuff quite well. Unfortunately have started to attack the skin on my heels so have lost confidence in them.

Also there is a thread in this forum specifically on these.
Biriani for endurance, pathia for speed.
