    Running near Leek

I've recently moved to Leek and wondered if a group goes out from here or nearby. I'm an orienteer and not a fell running superstar but love running off road. I'm not at peak fitness right now as this is my off season but usually long runs are about two hours long at a steady pace with a map.

Any group locally go out for off road runs in the dark during the winter with a head torch? I think Staffs Moorlands run on the track during the winter. Can anyone confirm this?

I'm trying to get organised for September. Whilst I'm not a superstar I'm dead keen and try to achieve my personal best Any info' would be gratefully received.

Macclesfield Harriers have a Wednesday night fell running group (who do head-torches in winter) they go from a different pub each week and some will be in the Leek direction - have a look at the website:

e.g. in September theyve Wednesday nighters from Congleton and the Roaches.

They're mixed ability and they often get a couple of dozen or more out even in the depths of winter.

20 minutes away from Leek is Goyt Valley Striders. Has a thriving ladies section and is a club on the up!

Check out our website at http://www.goytvalleystriders.org.uk

We train several times a week; just turn up and run with us.

We also have someone who lives in Leek and runs with us, so there may be an opportunity for lift share.

Let me know how you get on, Julie........a little (orienteering) bird told me that you'd emigrated to leek!

I may try and come up for the odd winter trog around The Roaches: really loved our night runs on The Chase in the winter (which you are welcome to attend!).
Are the Macc. runs open to any duffer????

    Hope to catch up soon.

She could be described as many things, but if she is an 'old duffer' many of us really should just lay down, die and go quietly!

If you go along on a Wednesday night for several years (like some of them have) you might turn into an old duffer. I'm sure they'll welcome you - just introduce yourself on the night and hang in there!
