To follow Stolly's example and save a little money on batteries at the same time, do what some of the Lakes, Mountain Bikers do for a 'laugh': set your headtorch to flash mode.

Now you see the rocks getting closer, now its dark, the rocks have moved, now its dark, they've gone, now its dark etc. I'm told its a real buzz!!

Right I'm going to have to buy a head torch. Was there any conclusion which is actually the one to buy?

Kev, TNRG = undocumented subversives ( Especially when you have that "No.6" turning out )

Novice, unless you want to become a total headtorch fondling geek, the obvious 'affordable' options are:-
    Petzl Myo Xp ('08)
    Petzl Myo Rxp
    PrincetonTec Apex
    Black Diamond Icon

BUT, if Great Auntie Ivy has just left you a sizeable inheritance, then Petzl's new Ultra, with 4Ah Li-Ion battery pack, has to be the cream of the crop at £300.00p
AND right at the other end of the scale, but championed by many, is Alpkit's Gamma @ £12.50p - but apparently a dearth of sophisticated, current limiting electronics for enhancing battery life.

YOU pay your MONEY and take your CHOICE

Although I did buy the myo XP at the end of last winter.

I only used it a couple of times but like Trundler says on the other thread...I think the beam is a bit strange.

ALL my runs in winter are off road over the hills, woods, graveyards. I never get spooked as i dont believe in ghosts( shit what was that noise as you run faster out the woods
Its easy to run with a torch i find and the crappier the weather the more i enjoy it as i have it all to myself.
I have badger my border collie as well now who has his own flashing collar and this year ive got him a big swiss cowbell to have to i can here him clonking up ahead
