    Clubs in leeds

Having spent much of this year in the Dales i took up fell running
under advice and guidance of two colleagues, i have recently started
racing short and medium events and enjoy every moment, most the time!
im starting university in Leeds this september and will ne moving
there shortly, with this in mind i would like to carry on training and
racing on a regular basis but unfortunatly i do not drive. i was
hoping i may be able to get some advice on clubs in Leeds that train
and race in the fells regularly or if there are individuals that live
in leeds that car share etc, i know that there are running clubs in
leeds but after checking some out on the net alot seem to be road
    based..

    many thanks.

    Hi,

There are a few clubs that are big on fell running but they tend to be on the outskirts of Leeds or just outside of Leeds. Where you thinking of moving to?

Sometimes best to choose the most convenient club to your location and then live with the fact that you are the only one wearing club colours at most events. This way you will get training with a club.

This does get annoying if you want to enter any of the fell relays though and it may sway your decision after a year or so. I know it might mine.

I will often look for car shares for some of the longer races so pm me your details.

I know it's 18 years since I moved over to Horwich but Abbey Runners still has the same cameraderie that it used to have, I can surely recommend them. Also suggest contacting Bob Jackson at Valley Striders - they have a few who get out on the fells. If you are top class then I suppose Pudsey & Bramley are the obvious choice.
If you are looking for clubs that turn out in quantity rather than quality look at full results for both championship and non-championship races

Have you looked at Skyrac AC?

    Re: Clubs in leeds

There is a university X-C club and some of them do fell races. Some have moved on to clubs like Leeds City who train at South Leeds Stadium. One of the key questions will be which Halls you are in. If Boddington or one of the Headlingley ones then Abbey Runners or Valley Striders are probably closest. The coach at Abbey is a Physiology lecturer at the University. If you are at Clarence Dock then Leeds City will be more convenient.

I can highly recommend Pudsey and Bramley, just a short train journey from Leeds. There is a regular training group in a Tuesday and Thursday from Priesthorpe School. Alot of P and B members are ex Leeds University students, Rob Hope and John Heneghan to name just 2, they both joined whilst studying in Leeds. You don't need to be top class to run for P and B!

Surely if you're going to Leeds University, then the university club is the obvious choice? They're one of the best uni XC clubs around, with a great team spirit.

Without a doubt P&b are the club to join!
