    Mountain Trial - kit update

Further clarification, following on from the narrowing of the definition of "waterproof" for this year's LDMT:

"Food" means Bananas (Windward Islands, minimum 17.5 degrees curvature - 'yellow and bent' is insufficient), Blackjacks or Chicken Korma

"Hat" means balaclava, bobble hat (reindeer motif) or Viking horns (+/-Valkyrie tresses).

"Whistle" means the pea-free PheepMaster lll

    You may, however, wear flip-flops...

I don't get your comments, although they are amusing, sounds like you're bitter or annoyed about something?

But I DID see your aviator and it reminded me of that great Simpsons episode. Is that the one where Bart "hides" thousands of cartons of ciggarettes in his room? When Homer comes in and sees them he tells Bart he's going to teach him a lesson; "I'm going to make you smoke every last one of them!"
Why walk when you can run.

They're a reference to the kit requirements listing acceptable waterproofs by name, which I took to be a simple send-up!

Does the compass have to be Silva or can it be any colour?

It says "‘Waterproof’ means made from Gore-Tex, eVent or Highvent fabric and
    has taped seams"

    Bit strange!

Bit of an 'in' joke, sorry. A specific email went to all entrants defining a short list of fabrics that the organisers consider "waterproof", which, apart from Gore-tex, would only be recognisable to a select few (well, certainly not to an Alf Tupper like me) ***. The standard PB running suit wouldn't qualify, but a new Gore-tex jacket would set me back £160, plus overtrousers, so I was moved to lampoon. I do own a very early Gore-tex jacket; it certainly ain't waterproof!

*** I just did a Google on one of them, Kamleika, and this came up:

    http://www.britishmuseum.org/explore.../kamleika.aspx

Made of sea mammal gut and sewn with grass. Now, that is what I'm turning up in; let's see 'em try and disqualify me!

Even Inov-8 don't claim the Mistlite is waterproof, merely that it meets FRA standards without specify which standards.
