Which is all very well, but how many of us affiliated members walk round with our number in our wallet? Or even take it to races? Or even know it off by heart? I suspect the people who fall into these categories are in the minority as we all have enough things to remember
    www.vlaevents.co.uk Fancy something different?

....Because you don't get a UKA / EA registration number by joining the FRA. You get that by your club registering you with England Athletics, who in turn send you a little card telling you what your number is.

The registration scheme doesn't seem to be working very well. Last year I was sent a card that said I was a 'Volunteer', then I was sent a card saying I was a 'Competitor', and then this year I'm back to being a 'Volunteer' ! As I'm unlikely to enter an open road race in the near future I can't be bothered to find out whether I do or do not have a 'Competition Licence'...

Blimey, all very complicated, but thanks for the clarification anyhow.
Shame though - I've always used FRA membership to get the discount!
I've been meaning to join a local club for ages, but can't decide which one - to save £2 on each road race though might tip the balance and (being tight!) I'lll just join the cheapest!!

Doesn't always have to be local. Just go for the cheapest. There are some that have membership over the internet!
