I'll be making my long awaited trip up to take part in this Scottish classic. Anyone else dabbling ?

Hoping for a far more successful 2009
I'm travelling up from Essex to have a dabble at this one, although the race profile suggests a real lack of nice runnable flat bits. Still, if its' a clear day the views from the tops should be a bit special.
What the race profile doesn't show you is that the route is mostly on good paths and/or short grass so it's actually quite runnable.
Hare hill, Black hill and Bell's hill are a bit rougher and need some navigation/route choice.
all the best for it.
Quite a few more details on the Skyline here:

And route map here:
Having done a fair bit of research I can see that the course does look very runnable but also has a hefty amount of climb and descent thrown in so will be very tough. I think the course records and last years times in very good conditions bare that out.
Hoping for a far more successful 2009
The weather is looking very good for today

what a fantastic race that was, well worth the long journey north. Weather couldn't have been much better, certainly compared to friday, when I tried to recee the course, but at the top of the first hill, I could barely put one foot in front of the other, it was so windy, and I had to abort the recee until saturday. I'll definitely be doing this one again. Thanks very much to the organisers and all the marshalls, especially the ones on the very exposed hill tops.
A stark reminder of just how crap I am descending :-(
That said I quite enjoyed it in a sadistic way.
Hoping for a far more successful 2009
