Started last week for some of us matey. They even lent us a little bit of February weather, just so we could run on Saturday (North Staffs League, Newcastle Under Lyme). Love the mud.........

I'll be there from 9:30 building the course and all being well having a trot round later on.

Hope the weather behaves itself. I don't mind running in the wind and rain, but the setting up and pulling down of the course is a nuisance.

Just remember, guests can come along and pay on the day to run.

Course Map and directions to Witton can be found at

Re: And so it starts - XCountr

WP, im now tempted to join the senior race and just go to enjoy runnin round and not go for the competative side of it.
Is the 'saucer', that huge hill. Well when i say huge it might not be that big but i last ran around 5 years ago when i was in year 9 (3rd year to some) so it may have seemed bigger.
How much is unnatatched entry on the day do you know?

Any tips on the course, i dont wana be out of fuel when early on when ive gotta go up and hill 4 times haha.
I remember in year nine, running down the hill with a stitch, and a lad infront of my had his left leg go down a hole, didnt know whether he was injured badly or not because it was the final lap.

I mioght pop along to have a run as a guest at this one but i have never done any cross country so i dont have any spikes. Would fell shoes be OK for this course?

What time does the Senior mens race start and do you register at the pavilion near the track?

Why don't people look at the links you put on for them?

    RACE START TIMES
Under 11 Boys and Girls 12.30 pm

Under 13 Boys and Girls 12.45 pm

Under 15 Boys and Girls 1.00 pm

Under 17 Boys and Girls Junior Ladies, Ladies and
    Veteran Ladies 1.20 pm

Footwear - Spikes if you have them - proper fell shoes if you don't - not trail shoes - you need the proper studs of a Walsh or Innov8 Mudroc.

    How did it go?
I was also there.........leggings and helly, for that full winter-time look!
Excellent mud, drizzle, and flogging in circles around a piece of parkland for 20 mins. (Why are the women's races sooooooo short??)

it was surprisingly good, but well churned up after you ladies & the kids had been on it (...its a stock excuse ) that hill was a bit tough, especially on lap 3-tired-legs. Amazingly we're 3rd in the ladies Div 1 and even more amazingly we're top of the men's div 2 - our best ever day, going to be tough next time though as we'll be without some of our key runners. I love the Park Hall course though, have you doen it before?
