    Re: Buttock injury?

    Ady, I saw a physio yesterday with a butt injury & (as I expected) she reckons I have some sort of problem with my piriformis muscle.

    She recommended that I lie on my back & massage the trigger point with a tennis ball. She also told me the the "Figure 4" stretch is, in her opinion, the best stretch.

    Using the search function on the forum gets a few hits;

    I've just decided I don't trust you anymore.

    Ady,

    sorry to hear your the brunt of the butt jokes Daz has the same problem he posted recently and mentioned it at the windgathererer.

    I imigine it would be your sciatic nerve as I've been having the same problem too, symptoms all sound very familiar - the physio has been working on my lower back - left butt cheek, left calf etc as it's all tied in with the nerve. He's been doing accupuncture as well as the usual manipulation / trigger pointing etc and I have an exercise or 2 to do for the nerve.

    You are best to get it sorted sooner rather than later as he said to me unlike muscle injuries if it's neural then it's not a case of a quick fix

    Hope you get it sorted - have you thought it might those tight shorts restricting the blood flow though

    Re: Buttock injury?

    I had a problem with a piriformis muscle tightening up which pressed on the sciatic nerve and made things ache, the hamstring stiffened up as well. That can be similar to sciatic type problems which stem from the lower back.

    If you google piriformis syndrome you can see if your symptoms match up.
    If so, massage with a golf or tennis ball can help. Deep massage by a physio can also loosen it.

    Good luck
