Put the price up I say. Get a proper editor in and glitz up the publication. It needs sorting out! More prizes to be won in competitions, more adverts, more glossy pics. Articles like (for example) 'Lady of the month', a bodybuilding section focussing on all-round conditioning, crosswords, problem page, Tarot.... it needs to become more commercial. For this to take place I wouldn't be hurt by the price going up, to say, 75 pounds a year. This would still be a snip, it would also ensure a dedicated following was achieved.
We have to realise that what we have is good, good enough to hold on to.

A 188pp perfect bound glossy mag without masses of ads, quality content, plenty of pics - what more could you want from a mag? What wants sorting? £75 per year from £12?? You'll be suggesting entry fees go up next to say £12 per race

Joggers' world more like. I'm just pointing out some beliefs which are shared by other fell runners. More in-depth training advice would be good too.

More commercial? Why? It is a magazine distributed to all members of the FRA.

As for content - well any magazine can only publish from articles and photographs that it receives so why not get writing?

Is it perfect? No! but then it's a damn sight better than many commercial publications with a similar distribution base, and in many cases better than magazines with much larger readerships. Increasing commercialisation is leading to a blurring of editorial content and advertisements - I grabbed a photography magazine to read on the train at the weekend where there was a camera review AND a four page "advertorial" for the same camera and written by the same writer - just how objective do you think the review is likely to be?

The magazine has changed lots in the last couple of years and no doubt will continue to evolve and change. I don't think it needs gimmicks though.

Then we can expand the association, give it more teeth and promote fell running. It's OK to keep it small scale, but that's selfish. Onwards and upwards should be our motto! Excusing the pun.
I've got friends at the Daily Mail, from the 80s who could turn the mag around, and who could also help with the organisation of it.
I'm sick of this small scale lefty liberal hippy crap. Get with the times! My dog's got more ambition than some who post on here, and he's tied up all day!

I'm gonna skip my fees and just wait for ToP where they were handing out the Summer and Winter issues for free!
